Thurs., July 30 (18 Weeks Even)

Oh my! What a week! Meema arrived on Saturday morning with Aunt Jan. The 3 of us girls (and Brady) drove up to Keene, NH to visit my grandmother - Brady's great grandma, Rena! She's in a nursing home and has Alzheimer's but she was in really good spirits when we arrived and just LOVED seeing Brady. We actually ended up staying for a couple of hours. It had been a number of years since I'd even seen her so it was really nice to go and introduce her to her great grandson...a very special moment, for sure. Mark stayed home because he was doing some last minute cramming for the bar exam. So it was just the 3 girls and the little man. Brady had a great time - with the exception of the ~2-3 hour car ride there/back. He isn't a big fan of the car these days. He just gets so bored in his car seat. He's fine if he has something to play with. Otherwise, he'll start to wail just from sheer boredom. So Jan and I designated Meema (my Mom) to be Brady's entertainment for the trip. She ended up entertaining all of us.
Meema ended up staying all week! She watched Brady on Wednesday and Thursday while I worked from home - and Mark took the bar exam! On Thursday, we went and bought Mark all sorts of goodies to celebrate the fact that he's DONE with the bar!!! Let the Daddy day care begin (until January when he starts work). Brady also tried his new Johnny Jump-Up for the first time. He just loves that new toy and took to it instantly. His new favorite thing is jumping. Meema left on Saturday morning (after a very tasty brunch in Boston - at 647 Tremont). That night, Brady tried rice cereal for the very first time! Oh and boy - he LOVED it. This kid was definitely ready for solid foods! My plan is to continue to nurse until he's a year (when he can drink real milk) so we weren't at all concerned about him missing out on any of the good breast milk antibodies etc but starting solids now. The main goal is to avoid formula altogether. I'll be one happy Mama if my little guy never has a drop of formula...not an easy goal for a working Mom wanting to nurse for a year - that's for sure! I'm very proud of the fact that I've been able to feed our little guy and watch him grow so much over the past ~4 months. Plus - after seeing this kid eat cereal - there is now no doubt in our minds that he was ready for some real food! I thought he was going to jump out of his chair to get to the bowl!
