After the labor excitement started to die down, my epidural was removed and we the doctors kept a close eye on my vitals over the next few hours. The nurses ordered me some dinner (I hadn't eaten in over 24 hours!) and we just stared at our new, little bundle of joy. Mark and I shared some tears and enjoyed our first time together - just the three of us. The nurses finally moved us to our private post-partum room around 12:30am on Friday. They wheeled me over to the new room while Brady was in the nursery having his own series of checkups (he had to get an IV inserted into his hand because of the temperature spike I had - risk for infection - during labor). During labor, my temperature spiked from 100 to 102.5 towards the end. There is always a risk for infection when you go a few hours after your water breaks. So the docs put Mom and Brady on three separate antibiotics to control any infection that may be lingering.
Once we got setup in our new room, Brady came back from the nursery. Mom, Dad and Brady end up falling fast asleep around 3:30am. Job well done for the Andersen family! The night was fairly uneventful and we actually managed to get some sleep. I fed (colostrum) Brady a few more times and the nurses came in to check on us every few hours. Once the sun rose, the nurses were back to check my vitals (and Brady's) and bring me breakfast, meds etc.
The visitors soon started arriving after that. Everyone came to see Br

ady! Mom and Dad McDonald (aka Meema and Grampy) were there...so was Mom and Dad Andersen (aka Grandma and Grampa), Uncle Erik, Uncle Ted, Aunt Amanda and the cousins (Anna, Nick, Zach and Ben). Some of our visitors stopped by a couple times throughout the day. The grandparents, Ted and Anna all came back to visit the next day too! We really enjoyed all the company and spending time celebrating Brady's arrival. The Moms, Mark and I looked back on the labor and thought about how we wouldn't have changed a thing. Mark and I loved have our Moms there...it really meant so much to have them there supporting us through the most important day in our lives. We wouldn't have had it any other way. I was in a significant amount of pain on Friday and Saturday (and even after leaving the hospital Sunday morning). The Doctor finally determined that I had overstretched my muscles during labor and that my pelvis had separated in front from pushing (big baby, small Mommy pelvis - ouch). They ended up putting me on oxycodone Saturday night and that started to finally relieve some of the swelling and pain. I couldn't even walk (or could but looked like a 98yr old woman without a walker), turn around or even get out of bed. I was an absolute mess and really upset that I couldn't pick Brady up to snuggle him or even change his diapers. Mark had to bring him to me to nurse. On a good note, my temperature went back to normal (Brady never actually got a temperature). Mark brought back sandwiches from DeAngelos for dinner both nights (cafeteria food - blah).
On Thursday

, we received a beautiful flower arrangement (hydrangea, roses etc. - all blue and yellow) from Lisa, Steve, Em, Pat and Grampy. On Friday, Brady had his circumcision. Everything went well and he actually slept through the process. He finally had his IV removed on Saturday night (I had mine removed Saturday afternoon). It was nice to have all the needles removed....there was an end in sight.
By Saturday afternoon, Mark and I were really looking forward to taking Brady home and starting our new life together.
